Powerline distances
Thank you very much for your interesting group test of powerline networking devices (PCW November 2007).
I would be interested to know if you can say anything more about the communication range reached in practice with the tested adapters - in the test article I could only read that it is limited and determined partially by the physical distance between the adapters.

Unfortunately it depends on many different factors (quality of wiring, interference from other devices etc.). That said, I have previously set up a powerline network that linked up a garden shed to a router based some 40m away. Although speeds obviously dropped, it shared the 2Mb broadband connection with no problem. Your best bet is to try some out - just make sure you check the store's return policy in case you need to take them back.
