To hell with Vista

So what the Vista Upgrade Advisor fails to mention is that the software for my BT Total Broadband will not load under Vista. The same went for my Epson printer. So no Internet and no printing.

You might suppose that this problem could be got around by using XP on another drive to look for compatible updates. Not so. Microsoft small print says that two different Windows systems cannot be run on the same PC. This policy seems to be enforced by setting the XP version to hang at an XP screen on boot up. Removal of the Vista drive makes no difference.

The only way ahead is a clean reinstall of XP. (I had to do this twice before the penny dropped.) The good news is that all my data is intact in the backup on the external hard drive and my XP drive is now rubbish free. Vista is being returned.

I have a similar problem - have just last week bought a laptop with Vista Home Premium. It wont sit with BT Total Wireless Home Hub Broadband. I have spent over 10 hours online with BT Technicians and Manufacturers Technicians. Microsoft say they wont speak to me because the Vista was pre-loaded by the manufacturer, and still no result !

The same with me and more. BT Broadband - no Browser, Epson Stylus Printer (all now solved. BUT PLUS - Internet explorer7 - same problem as with XP. window. 'IE has stoped working etc' Now only use Mozila. Windows Media Player will not play DVDs had to revert to Media Player Classic.(download new Codec etc) It seems to me that Microsoft have been fixing things that do not require fixing . AS Vista no Excell, Front Page etc had to re-load all.I had to format after taking 24 hours to load all my programs because loss of sound and crashing. DO NOT load 'UPGRADE YPUR WINDOWS VISTA EXPERIENCE' as it will give many more problems.Even the Side Bar is so basic compared to Mac and Yahoo (thousands of Widgets to sellect) My experience of Vista is bad and do not recomend it for anybody at this time. Stay with XP for the time being until MSN sort out all their crazy bugs. Vista Contact Help will not talk to you only revert you to your computer manufacturer if Vista installed - MSN just does not want to know. I am a Pensioner and cannot afford all the fees for on -line assist from MSN. Cheers
