SeniorNet UK launched

Following on from a previous thread on PCW Interactive, I thought that you might be interested to know that after a bit of delay we have launched a website (www.seniornet-uk.org) to address some of the items discussed.

Albeit small at the moment, we are looking for the site to grow over the coming months and provide UK ‘seniors’ with assistance in better understanding various aspects of email, broadband, Internet and so on. Full details can be found on the website.

This is an excellent idea to assist the inexperienced become more knowledgeable in the IT world. It's just a shame that the over 50's tend to be typecast as being the group most in need of such. I refute this and believe that people of all ages are at different levels of understanding in the computer world. Old age is not a disease. Our bodies may be more frail but our minds remain the same as they were when we were young. There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.
I am 62 years old and have been in the IT business since the 80's when computers first started to appear in the workplace. I help all my friends who are of a similar age with their pcs. My friends all have different levels of understanding and capability. They are not less capable or less able to learn just because they are older.

I am gone 71, fit enough to chop down trees, swing a pick to dig out the stumps, manage a large garden, and last summer finished painting the balance of 17 Georgian type windows and can teach some of the kids I know some things even now about PCs and, in particular, plain good manners. Why write my generation off when what is replacing it is mainly a greedy selfish society that has to have everything yesterday at any cost even if it has to be borrowed. God help us all I say if somebody believes society is better than it used to be.
